Petrocity railways are alternatives for Espírito Santo ports

With the entry into operation of the railways, the ports of Espírito Santo will have an integrated railway network that will function as a complementary alternative, distributing cargo and ensuring greater efficiency for the national port system.

Brazil is experiencing a decisive moment for its cargo transportation matrix. The predominance of the road transport mode, in addition to being costly, generates significant environmental and social impacts.

In this context, the Petrocity Group is advancing with a bold railway project that promises to transform national logistics, integrating productive regions that are still underserved into export routes, with emphasis on the ports of Espírito Santo.

The Railways of the Petrocity Group were designed to act as structuring axes of logistical integration. Their layout connects the Brazilian Midwest, Northern Minas, the Jequitinhonha Valley, the Mucuri Valley, and Northwestern Espírito Santo to the Capixaba ports, especially to the Private Use Terminal (TUP) of Urussuquara, in São Mateus.

This direct connection creates a competitive alternative for the outflow of agro-industrial, mineral, and industrial production from these regions, which currently face logistical bottlenecks to access consumer and export markets.

The Port of Urussuquara was designed to be the main logistics anchor of the Petrocity Group. Its railway connection will make it possible to receive cargo over long distances at lower cost and with greater efficiency.

The terminal will become an integrated distribution hub, offering more than one export route to the productive chains of the Brazilian interior, while also attracting new industrial and logistical investments to Northern Espírito Santo.

The purpose of Petrocity’s railways is not only to create a new logistics route, but to expand the competitiveness of Capixaba ports.

Currently, a large part of the cargo from Brazil’s interior is concentrated in corridors that converge to a few ports, causing congestion and capacity limitations.

With the entry into operation of the EF’s, the ports of Espírito Santo will have an integrated railway network that will function as a complementary alternative, distributing cargo and ensuring greater efficiency for the national port system.

The impact of the project goes beyond logistics.

The implementation of the railways and the associated port infrastructure promotes:

  • Regional economic development, by boosting productive chains in Northern Espírito Santo and the interior of Minas Gerais and Goiás

  • Job and income generation, with the installation of transshipment units and dry ports along the routes

  • Reduction of CO₂ emissions, by replacing part of road transport with rail transport, in line with ESG policies and decarbonization targets

  • Social integration, by bringing historically neglected regions closer to the major opportunities of international trade

The Railways of the Petrocity Group represent a silent revolution in national logistics.

By interconnecting productive hinterlands to the Capixaba coast, especially to the TUP of Urussuquara, the project consolidates Espírito Santo as a strategic export hub.

More than an engineering project, this is an economic, social, and environmental transformation initiative that reinforces Brazil’s role as a key player in global supply chains.

Espírito Santo is the greatest beneficiary of the project under implementation, with all Public Utility Declarations (DUPs) already issued and expropriation underway.

And we will contribute to the enormous project of consolidating the State’s logistics, developed by the government.
